Managing Reactivity and Functioning Fully in Difficult Conversations.

Learn and practice four powerful tools to transform your habitual response of fight, flight or freeze in a challenging conversation.

Do you find yourself being triggered into habitual survival responses when you hear difficult messages from others? Do you freeze up, get defensive or aggressive, or change the subject or do whatever you can to leave as soon as possible? Do you find these reactions either add to conflict, more difficulty, or leave you with a growing pile of unresolved issues and feelings of anxiety or resentment?

These are normal responses to messages that may be hard to hear, for example, things people say to us that are filled with judgments, accusations, blame, anger, irritations, raised voices, expectations we didn’t know about, and more. Our nervous system perceives danger and moves into survival mode to protect us. We have all developed conditioning from life experiences that inform our nervous systems when potential danger is present. The trouble is, the brain’s interpretation of danger isn’t always accurate. Something in the present is similar to something dangerous in the past so it goes into reaction and protection mode. When we are in that survival mode, we do not have access to the reasoning part of our brain so communication is often non-existent or at best ineffective. It happens to all of us. Stop a moment and remember the most recent time this happened to you. Remember how you later were able to think of all the great responses you wish you had made but couldn’t think of in the moment? You can learn how to transform reactive moments into moments of responsiveness and connection.

This deepening day will offer you learning and coached practice in applying NVC/Compassionate Communication tools, and more, to transform your reactivity and meet difficult moments with presence, and authentic and compassionate responses.

You will learn how to distinguish past from present in your reactions and practice how to get your brain back, speak your honest truth and de-escalate reactive situations peacefully. No more building up walls of fear, anger and resentment between you and others!
